Which Party Has a Better Plan?

September 25, 2025

A new Reuters/Ispos poll found President Donald Trump’s approval rating declined again this month and is now 41%. More interestingly, however, was the responses on which party has the better for specific issues.

By The Numbers:

  • Americans believe Republicans have better plans than Democrats on crime (40% R, 20% D), immigration (40% R, 22% D), foreign conflicts (35% R, 23% D) and corruption (27% R, 21% D). Americans believe Democrats have better plans than the GOP on the environment (37% D-23% R) and women’s rights (38% D-25% R).

  • Americans were split on which party was better on gun control (32% R, 28% D), political extremism (30% R, 28% D), and respect for democracy (29% R, 31% D).

  • Americans are also split on the two issues that will likely decide the 2026 Midterms–the economy and healthcare. While 34% of Americans believe Republicans have a better plan for the economy, 25% think Democrats do. On healthcare, 34% of Americans believe Democrats have better plan, 25% believe Republicans do).

The Bottom Line: The economy and healthcare will be key issues in the Midterms, particularly surrounding the Big Beautiful Bill, Medicaid reform, and tariffs. Republicans have lost trust when it comes to healthcare, a key cost-of-living issue, but are now coming close to losing their advantage on the economy. With so much noise and distraction in the news every day, candidates will need to find ways to bring the message back to the kitchen table and make the case why Republican plans for these key issues are better than the Democrats’ ideas.
