Republican Voter Registration Gains

September 18, 2025

Republicans must grapple with some messaging nuances around entitlement reform and the economy before the Midterms, but NBC News highlighted some good news for the GOP. In the 28 states that register voters by political party, Republicans have slashed the Democrat registration advantage by one million voter since the 2024 Presidential Election. These gains have been seen largely in swing states.

By The Numbers:

  • On Election Day 2024, Arizona Republicans had a 295,555-voter registration edge over Democrats. Today, the AZ GOP advantage is 327,114, an increase of 31,558.

  • In Nevada, Democrats had a 5,875-voter advantage over Republicans last November. Today Democrats’ advantage has fallen by 2,110 voters, to D +3,765.

  • Last November, North Carolina Democrats had a 105,675-registration advantage over Republicans. Today NC Republicans have closed that gap by almost a hundred thousand voters, leaving Democrats with just a 12,789-voter registration advantage.

  • Pennsylvania is the most interesting of the swing states, where Republicans have closed the voter registration gap by 113,678 voters. Democrats were +286,283 last November. Today, the Democratic advantage is down to 172,605.

The Bottom Line: Republicans are doing a much better job recruiting new voters this year than they did at this point in Trump’s first term. Registering new voters is just the first step. Next comes the challenging task of convincing these new voters to have faith and confidence in their new party on key issues like the economy and inflation, and to show up in a non-presidential year election.
