Midterm Motivation

August 14, 2025

A July CNN poll found Democrats are far more energized than Republicans to show up for next year Midterm Elections. As CNN notes, it remains to be seen whether Democrats will learn how to convert this energy into action.

By The Numbers:

  • Seventy-two percent of Democrat and Democrat-leaning voters said they’re extremely motivated to vote in next year’s Midterm Elections. That’s 10 points higher than the number of Democrats who said the same just weeks before the 2024 Presidential Election.

  • Only 50% of Republican and Republican-leaning voters say they are extremely motivated to vote in next year’s Midterm Elections.

  • Even though enthusiasm is on Democrats’ side, they must grapple with their perception issue. Only 52% of Democratic voters under 45 years old say the Democrat member of Congress deserves reelection while 48% say they do not.

The Bottom Line: While Democrats face a branding challenge, Republicans face challenges of their own. Fifty-seven percent of voters believe it’s bad for the country for Republicans to control all branches of government. That said, Americans are not sold on giving Democrats the reins. Republicans can capitalize on this to make the argument why the American people should keep the GOP in control next year.
