Republican Latino Enthusiasm Advantage

July 18, 2024

According to a new Axios Vibes Survey by The Harris Poll, Latino Republicans are more enthusiastic about voting this November than Latino Democrats, a sign of the opportunity the Trump-Vance ticket and down ballot GOP candidates have in making inroads with this coveted demographic this election.

By The Numbers:

  • Overall, only 68% of Latinos say they are expected to vote in the November presidential election, compared to 79% of all U.S. adults.

  • Of that 68%, Republicans have the advantage. Eighty-six percent of Latino Republicans say they are likely to vote in the 2024 presidential election, compared to 71% of Democrat Latinos and 54% of Independent Latinos.

  • Not only are Republican Latinos more likely to vote in November, but they’re also more excited. Fifty-six percent of Republican Latinos say they are “enthusiastic” about the presidential election, compared to just 40% of Democrat Latinos.

The Bottom Line: The survey says inflation, border security, and crime are the top issues for Latino Republicans. Inflation, climate change, and abortion are the top issues for Latino Democrats. President Donald Trump and Republicans have the upper hand when handling inflation, the common issue with both groups. There is real opportunity here not just for the top of the ticket, but for down ballot Republican candidates. Mobilizing enthusiastic Hispanics to turn out to vote, while leaning into inflation to win over depressed Latino Democrats opens up a new swing state opportunities and a broader coalition of voters the GOP can bring together for victory.
