Epstein Noise

July 17, 2025

News organizations were quick to declare a “MAGA divorce” following the Justice Departments released memo on the Epstein files, but what does the data say? It’s not so clear cut, according to a new CNN poll.

By The Numbers:

  • Overall, just 3% of Americans say they are satisfied with the information released on the Epstein files, compared to 50% who say they’re dissatisfied and 29% who say it doesn’t matter either way.

  • More men–55%–are dissatisfied with the information than women, 45% of whom say they are dissatisfied.

  • Fifty-six percent of Democrats and 68% of independents who lean Democratic say they’re dissatisfied with the information, compared to 40% of Republicans and 53% of independents who lean Republican. 44% of true Independents say they’re dissatisfied with the information.

Bottom Line: It’s unclear whether Americans are truly dissatisfied with the administration’s handling of the issue itself (raising expectations, then whiffing) or dissatisfied with what the issue represents (sexual abuse by a powerful public figure) . What is clear is after arguably the most successful month of Trump’s term so far, this is an unnecessary distraction that should be resolved so media and the public can move on.
