Americans View Iran as Serious Threat

June 26, 2025

There have been a flurry of polls over the last week since President Donald Trump authorized the strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities. Democrats and far-right isolationists are close to overplaying their hand with public dissent, especially as polls like a recent CBS News/YouGov poll show that there’s bipartisan agreement that Iran having a nuclear weapon would be a very serious threat.

By The Numbers:

  • Fifty-six percent of Americans believe Iran having a nuclear weapon would be “a very serious threat” to the U.S., including 49% of Democrats, 53% of Independents, and 66% of Republicans. Sixty-five percent believe it would be a very serious threat to Israel.

  • While Americans are divided on whether they approve of the strikes on Iran, however, they are just about evenly split on confidence in the Trump Administration’s handling of Iran. Forty-nine percent of Americans have a lot or some confidence in the Trump Administration, while 51% do not have much confidence.

The Bottom Line: Trump acted in accordance with what most Americans believe—that peace comes through strength and its judicious use. That’s what Americans and the world saw last week. Over time, public opinion will likely continue to reflect positively on Trump’s actions, especially if the Trump Administration refuses to waiver.
