Decline In Democrats’ Favorable Ratings

April 20, 2017

Decline In Democrats’ Favorable Ratings: The favorable ratings of both political parties have declined over the last four months according to a new study by the Pew Research Center.  In January, 51% had a favorable view of the Democratic Party, while 45% had an unfavorable one.  Today, those numbers are reversed, with 45% saying they have a favorable view and 51% saying they have an unfavorable view.  Republicans also saw a drop.  In January 47% had a favorable view of the GOP and 49% an unfavorable view.  Today those numbers are 40%-57%, respectively.

Democrats have another problem, however, as their favorability among Democrat-leaning independents is lower than at any point in the last two decades.  In January, 73% of Democrat-leaning independents had a favorable view of the Democratic Party.  Today that number stands at just 55%.  By comparison, 63% of Republican-leaning independents still have a favorable view of the Republican Party, down from 72% in January.

The Democrats’ failure to cross 50% in Tuesday’s hyped Georgia CD-6 special election should be a wake-up call for that party.  They can continue to demonize President Donald Trump to placate their base, but that costs swing, independent backers who may be more inclined to stay home or vote Republican as a result of the Democrats hard-left oppositional approach.
