Voters Are Divided On U.S. Military Action Against Iran

March 05, 2026

More than half of Americans believe Iran poses a serious threat to the United States, according to the new Fox News poll. But Americans overall are divided with 50% approving of military action there.

By The Numbers:

  • Sixty-one percent believe Iran poses a real national security threat to the United States. This number was highest in June 2025 (73%) and lowest in July 2019 (60%). Thirty-eight percent of Americans do not.

  • Twenty-nine percent of Americans believe President Donald Trump’s handling of relations with Iran have made the country safer; 51% believe his actions have made the country less safe; and 19% believe there has been no difference

  • The concerns over Iran do not translate into full support. Americans are split 50/50 on whether they approve of the current U.S. military action against Iran. Eighty-four percent of Republicans approve of the action, 40% of Independents approve, and only 20% of Democrats approve.

The Bottom Line: While over two-thirds of Americans believe Iran poses a threat, the public is divided on whether military action will make America safer. The Trump Administration must consistently communicate its goals and progress in the coming months.
