Economic Issues Continue to Be Main Concern

February 27, 2025

Economic issues continue to dominate Americans’ concerns a month into President Donald Trump’s presidency. According to a recent Pew Research Center poll, health care costs and inflation are the most pressing of economic concerns of Americans.

By The Numbers:

  • Sixty-seven percent of Americans said the affordability of health care is a very big problem for the country today, up from 57% in 2024.

  • Sixty-three percent of Americans said inflation is a very big problem for the country. This is similar to the number who said it was a big problem this time last year, but down from 70% in 2022.

  • The number of Americans who said the federal budget deficit is a very big problem is up to 57%, while the number of Americans who said unemployment is a very big problem is down to just 25%.

The Bottom Line: Americans will keep saying the economy is the number one issue facing the country until there are improvements to cost of living and broader prosperity for ordinary Americans. The demand for elected leaders to deliver economic relief will keep increasing until the Trump Administration and Republican Congress get wins on the board that Americans believe are making a real difference in their lives.
