Losing Ground With Latino Voters

November 27, 2025

Because of the Biden economy, President Donald Trump and Republicans made gains with Latino voters last year. Trump only lost Latinos by five points nationally, compared to minus 38 points in 2016 and minus 33 points in 2020. Though Trump started his term with favorable ratings with this group, recent CNN polling shows the president and GOP have lost some of their 2024 gains.

By The Numbers:

  • In February, 41% of Latino voters approved of the job Trump is doing. Today, that’s down to just 20%. This 21-point drop is the largest of any demographic. Trump’s approval dropped 10 points overall, and just four points with black Americans and nine-points with white Americans.

  • Since March, the Republican Party’s favorability rating among Latinos has dropped from 26% to 16%, while the Democratic Party’s rating has held roughly steady, going from 37% to 34%.

  • The economy was the issue that drove Latinos to the GOP last year and is the issue that’s driving some away today. Fifty-four percent of Latinos say the economy and cost of living are the nation’s top issues, compared to 47% among all Americans. Seventy-five percent of Latinos say Trump’s policies have worsened economic conditions, compared to 61% of Americans overall.

The Bottom Line: The 2025 elections offered other data showing deterioration with this key voting group. Again, putting the focus back to the economy and acknowledging more needs to be done to make life easier will help Republicans with all voters going into the 2026 election year, but especially Hispanics.
