Biden Losing on Immigration

February 01, 2024

President Joe Biden is weak on what is likely a top issue going into the 2024 election – immigration. According to a new Bloomberg News/Morning Consult poll, over half of voters in seven swing states (AZ, GA, MI, NV, NC, PA, WI) blame Biden for the increase of migrants crossing the US-Mexico border.

By the Numbers:

  • Sixty-one percent of voters said that Biden is somewhat to blame for the crisis at the border.

  • Only 30% of voters say former President Donald Trump is to blame. Only 31% of voters blame Republicans in Congress.

  • Voters in all seven in the swing states surveyed said they trust Trump on immigration over Biden 52% to 30%.

The Bottom Line:  Immigration and the crisis at the southern border will continue to be a top issue for both Republican primary voters, as well as independents and general election voters.  Biden will keep looking weak on the issue if it is not addressed, especially as this is one of the central themes of Trump’s 2016 campaign.
