The latest CBS News/YouGov poll found while self-identifying Republicans and “MAGA” Republicans approve of President Donald Trump handling of the War in Iran, the public-at-large is concerned and confused.

By The Numbers:
Twenty-four percent of Americans have “a lot” of confidence that Trump is making the right decisions regarding Iran, including 75% of “MAGA” Republicans. Eighteen percent have “some” confidence, including 21% of “MAGA” Republicans. Fifty-eight percent have “not much/none,” including just 4% of “MAGA” Republicans.
Ninety-percent believe the conflict will bring higher oil and gas prices in the short term and 58% believe it’ll bring higher prices in the long term. When asked about their personal circumstances, 85% believe gas prices are going up (increased from 25% in February). Virtually no one believes gas prices are going down.
In terms of long-term success, many Americans are confused on the mission. Earlier this month 62% said the Trump Administration had not yet clearly explained U.S. goals for the conflict. That number has increased to 68% today.
The Bottom Line: While Trump’s base continues to rally around him and the mission, the broader public need clearer messaging going into the Midterm Elections, particularly if gas prices keep rising and remain high. While Trump is his own best messenger, surrogates and others who enjoy large public trust must now advance a unified message.
